Here in northern Illinois, the leaves are beginning to change color, birds are migrating, the crops are being harvested, summer blooms are fading and the hues of fall are emerging in rich golds, amber, russet, chestnut, maroon, oranges, warm reds, aubergine, the list goes on and on. What colors remind you of autumn?
With the change in seasons, out come our cooler-weather wardrobes of layered-looks: sweaters, jackets and boots. As our clothing gets a little heavier, our accessories usually need to as well. Layered and longer necklaces pair well with a variety of necklines. Long necklaces are lovely with an open jacket and lengthen the line of our figures. Shorter necklaces work well with open necklines like button-ups and v-necks and draw the eye upward to the face. If your eyes are your best feature, consider a piece in either the shade of your irises or a color opposite on the color wheel: green and hazel eyes with purple, blue with orange or rust. With brown eyes, look toward the center near your pupils: what color flecks do you have? Are your eyes a warm or cool brown?
Regardless your eye color, don’t feel limited to these suggestions! Have fun and wear what you enjoy! Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and give something new a try. You might be surprised you like not matching perfectly and pair orange accessories with turquoise or purple clothing. Jewelry allows you to add some color to your day even if you’re required to wear conservative shades.
Happy autumn!
